Year 3 Community Cohesion Project
26th May 2017
Every year our Year 3 class are involved in the Community Cohesion Project,- which takes place at Wakefield Cathedral - along with Year 3 children from St. John’s CE School, St. Mary’s CE School, St. Peter’s CE School and St. James’ School.
The Year 3 classes are divided into three groups and so a third of each class will go to the Cathedral in turn on one of three dates. On each day children will take part in four workshops – drama, art, music and reflective crafts with a theme of Friendship – led by creative professionals and the Cathedral Learning Team. There will also be at least two members of school staff, including the class teacher, accompanying each group of children.
Children and school staff will travel to and from Wakefield Cathedral by coach.
YOUR CHILD WILL NEED A PACKED LUNCH- including a drink.
(children on free school meals will be provided with packed lunch by school)
Your child will have received a letter telling them on which day they are taking part. 15th June, 22nd June, 29th June 9:30 - 2:15pm
Our Community Cohesion Project 2017 takes place close to National Refugee Week. Wakefield is a City of Sanctuary and as such welcomes refugees and asylum seekers. The City of Sanctuary organisation is run by volunteers and one of the things they do is assemble emergency packs of clothes for people arriving in the country with nothing.
The packs contain 1 pair of underwear, 1 pair of socks, 1 t-shirt, 1 pair of joggers or leggings and 1 sweatshirt/hoodie. Wakefield Cathedral is working with the Arthouse to support City of Sanctuary by collecting items for the emergency packs, and would like to invite parents to donate items for the packs.
Ideally items should be new (especially the underwear!) and may be for men, women, boys and girls of all ages . We would be most grateful for any donations and your child could bring them on the day of their Community Cohesion Project .and school staff would ensure delivery to The City of Sanctuary Organisation.
