Phonics is ‘Phun’

Phonics is Phun is a course run by the Family Learning service in Wakefield.  It gives parents and carers the opportunity to find out what their child is learning in school and to make resources and then work alongside their child once a week for six weeks.

Who is it for?


This course is for all parents/carers who would like to support their child’s language development, but who aren’t sure how to go about it.


It’s a joint class and parents are asked to participate alongside their child (ren).


The course aims to:

  •         Introduce parents to the way their children are taught to use phonics at school in reading and spelling.
  •         Introduce parents to games and activities that will make phonics fun.
  •         Provide parents with information and advice about children’s reading development


When will it be?


Wednesday mornings from 16th September for 6 weeks (last session Wednesday 21st October)


Where will it take place?


United Kingdom classroom (middle room of the KS1 building)


What do I need to bring with me?

  •         You are not required to bring anything with you to the course.


Additional Information

  •         Free to participate
  •         This short course will cover developing attention and listening; vocabulary, building sentences and conversations, as well as telling stories.
  •         We will support you to plan and create fun learning activities to share with your child/children.
