Bikefest - Year 5

25th March 2015

Dear Parents/Carers

There is a very exciting opportunity for children in Year 5 – 5 boys and 5 girls plus reserves - to attend Bikefest at Nostell Priory on Wednesday 29th April.

Bikefest is a large scale cycle competition and celebration of cycling for schools in the Wakefield District to encourage children to cycle for leisure and health.

Bikefest will start at 9am and finish at 1pm.  The children will need to meet at school at 8:15am to get on the coach and will be back at school for the normal school finish time of 3:15pm.

The children who attend Bikefest will need to be strong cyclists as the idea is that they participate in cycle races – a ‘yellow jersey’ race of 1.8km, a sprint, a hill climb and British Cycling race of 1.5km with sharper turns for more skilful riders.

Bikes and helmets will be supplied for each race so children do not need to bring their own bikes.  Children may bring their own helmets if they wish to do so.

Children will need to wear appropriate cycling clothing depending on the weather.  They will need warm comfortable clothing to wear when not competing and must have both waterproofs and suncream available if needed.  There are changing areas provided.  They do not need to have their school uniform to change into on this day.

There is expected to be media interest in this event and it is assumed that all children attending may appear on TV and a range of other broadcast media.

Parents and carers are able to spectate at this event.  Please make your own travel arrangements for the day and follow instructions at Nostell Priory regarding car parking.  There is an event village .

Yours sincerely
